PRAIRIE STATE MEN PLACE 12TH OUT OF 20
Twenty men’s cross country teams, including Prairie State College,
competed at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday in
Lisle. The Pioneers nearly placed in the upper half as they were 12th
in the final standings.
Keith Burke (Chicago Heights) led PSC’s five freshmen with an
8-kilometer time of 32:09. Devin Horner (Beecher H.S.) followed,
finishing in 34:23.
Peter Kallend (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) recorded a time of 36:30, while
Joshua Washington (Thornton H.S.) completed the course in 38:44.
Leonard Young (Matteson) rounded out the scoring with a 39:09 effort.
In the women’s 6-kilometer race, freshman Anahi Lopez (Bloom H.S.) paced
Prairie State with a 31:11 showing.
Also participating for the Pioneers was freshman Desiree Gordon (Rich
Central H.S.), who timed in at 40:13.

PSC’S WOMEN’S TEAM HAS BEST SHOWING OF SEASON
Freshmen Desiree Gordon (Rich Central H.S.) and Anahi Lopez (Bloom H.S.)
of the Prairie State College women’s cross country team had their top
performances of the season Saturday at Loyola University’s 35th Annual
Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Avenue Beach in Chicago.
Gordon bettered her previous-best 5-kilometer time by 3 minutes 45
seconds en route to finishing in 28:33. Lopez, meanwhile, saw a 1:18
improvement as she clocked in at 23:26.
In the men’s 8-kilometer competition, freshman Devin Horner (Beecher
H.S.) led the Pioneers with a time of 30:54. He was followed by
freshmen Joshua Washington (Thornton H.S.) (31:12), Jerard Green
(Thornton H.S.) (31:34), Keith Burke (Chicago Heights) (32:18), Peter
Kallend (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) (35:00) and Leonard Young (Matteson)
(38:37).
Kallend’s outing marked his fastest of the campaign, eclipsing his old
mark by 15 seconds.
PSC’s men’s team ranked 23rd out of 25 teams, which included NCAA
Division II and III schools as well as NAIA programs.

PIONEERS SHOW IMPROVEMENT IN TIMES
Season-best times by seven freshmen members of the Prairie State College
men’s and women’s cross country teams highlighted the Pioneers’
performance at the Aurora University Spartan Classic on Friday in
Aurora.
Devin Horner (Beecher H.S.) led the men’s team with a 29:36 showing,
which was seventh among 24 junior college participants in the
8-kilometer event. Joshua Washington (Thornton H.S.) was ninth after
registering a time of 30:06.
Jerard Green (Thornton H.S.) and Keith Burke (Chicago Heights) nearly
published identical times as the former crossed the finish line in 30:40
and the latter in 30:42.
Also compiling a personal-best was Leonard Young (Matteson), who had a
time of 34:47.
PSC’s two women’s runners also had their top efforts of the campaign.
Anahi Lopez (Bloom H.S.) concluded the 6-kilometer race in 30:36, and
Desiree Gordon (Rich Central H.S.) tallied a time of 34:05.

WASHINGTON PERFORMS WELL AT WAUBONSEE
Led by freshman Joshua Washington (Thornton H.S.), the Prairie State
College men's cross country team finished seventh among 10 schools at
the Waubonsee Community College Chiefs Invitational on Saturday in Sugar
Grove.
Meanwhile, in the women's venue, PSC placed eighth in a field of eight
teams.
Washington authored a 5-mile time of 30 minutes 30 seconds en route to
ranking 20th out of 65 participants.
Freshmen Jerard Green (Thornton H.S.), Devin Horner (Beecher H.S.) and
Keith Burke (Chicago Heights) were separated by just 32 seconds as they
clocked in at 31:24, 31:48 and 31:56, respectively.
Also competing for the Pioneers were freshmen Peter Kallend
(Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) (35:15) and Leonard Young (Matteson) (35:26).
Prairie State's women's team was paced by freshman Anahi Lopez (Bloom
H.S.), whose 3-mile time was 24:44. Freshman Desiree Gordon (Rich
Central H.S.) followed with a 32:18 showing.

PSC OPENS SEASON AT HARPER COLLEGE
Five Prairie State College freshmen cross country runners made their
collegiate debut Saturday morning at the Harper College Invitational in
Palatine.
Competing for PSC’s men’s team were Keith Burke (Chicago Heights), Devin
Horner (Beecher H.S.) and Peter Kallend (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.), while
Desiree Gordon (Rich Central H.S.) and Anahi Lopez (Bloom H.S.)
represented the Pioneer women.
In the men’s competition, Horner paced the Prairie State trio with a
3.0-mile time of 18:50 to place 18th out of 38 participants. Burke
finished three slots behind his teammate after tallying a time of 19:14,
and Kallend contributed a 22:24 showing.
Lopez and Gordon authored 2.0-mile times of 17:34 and 22:28,
respectively, in the women’s event.
